With Injuries to Outfield, Tribe calls on Top Prospect for Relief

With an injury riddled outfield that now includes Abraham Almonte, Austin Jackson, and Brandon Guyer the Indians have decided to recall their top prospect, outfielder Bradley Zimmer. Zimmer of course, was the Tribe's first round selection back in 2014 (21st overall). The Indians have made a move that many fans, and no doubt Zimmer himself has anticipated for a long time. Zimmer has had a decent minor league career to this point. In 2016, Zimmer slashed .250/.365/.425 between AA Akron and AAA Columbus. He had 46 extra base hits last season (15 HR, 25 doubles, 6 triples) and 38 stolen bases, making him quite the threat at the plate and on the base paths. One thing that Zimmer really needs to work on is his selectiveness. Last season Zimmer struck out 171 times in 557 plate appearances, a 30.7 K%, he only walked 77 times in comparison (13.8 BB%).

So far in 2017 Zimmer has seen an uptick in production. So far he is batting .294 and has an impressive OPS of .902. He has already hit five home runs, and stolen nine bases. It will be interesting to see how Terry Francona decides to work him into the lineup. One would assume with right handed pitcher Jake Odorizzi on the mound that he will be in the lineup tonight, but only time will tell. This is definitely an exciting time for Zimmer, his family and friends and also for Indians fans. Best of luck to Bradley Zimmer, the newest addition to the Tribe roster!
