Keys to the game 4/26 Astros @ Indians

Hannah's Three Keys
1.) Know who gets to make the call!
Yesterday we saw the two players collide in the outfield when Astros' second baseman Jose Altuve and outfielder Teoscar Hernandez had a miscommunication in shallow right field. While it does not happen very often, collisions like that do occur in baseball. Loud stadium, two players focused on making the same play, adrenalin is pumping, both think the other will back away and let them make the play. Before you know it, one player is being helped off the field, the other is being carted off on a stretcher. The injuries that Altuve and Hernandez sustained could have been a lot worse then they were, but it does not always turn out that way. I personally do not care who the player is, or what team they play for. I do not want to see anyone injured while playing the game of baseball if they can help it. It goes above and beyond wanting to win a baseball game. Baseball players have mothers, fathers, wives, kids and people that love and depend on them. So, play with the awareness of what is going on around you, and play smart.

2.) Keep Dominating
If there is one team that our lovable weirdo always seems to pitch well against, it is the Houston Astros. Trevor Bauer went 2-0 with a 3.75 ERA in two starts made last year, and is 5-0 with a 1.97 ERA in five career starts made against them. While his numbers so far this season are not as impressive as those (1-2 with a 6.35 ERA), his last outing was a step in the right direction. We need him to continue to maintain his composure, especially in tense situations. If he can keep his emotions in check, and avoid a mid-game implosion, he will have a good chance to continue his dominance.

3.) Stop it. Stop it with the errors
The team currently ranks 13th in the league with 12 errors,. Two errors were recorded by the Indians defense last night, but if we are being honest, it should have been more. It is frustrating because we know that our defense is capable of playing so much better than what we saw last night.  Sloppy, error-filled baseball, especially when played against a team as good as the Houston Astros, is the best way to hand them a victory. Errors not only give momentum and extra opportunities to our opponents, but they cause prolonged innings, making our pitchers throw more pitches in order to get out of an inning they should already be out of. Knowing that Bauer can be a total head case, our defense needs to do whatever they can to play fundamentally sound defense behind him. We have got to do better.
